Alan Clarke has studied at Bolton St. School of Architecture, Dublin; Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall; The Russian Academy of Art, Florence; The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin; The Barcelona Academy of Art, The Drawing Studio, Dublin; and The Dublin Graphic Print Studio, Dublin.

Alan Clarke was formerly Chairman of the Illustrators Guild of Ireland, and is currently a member of Visual Artists Ireland.

He has presented his work at numerous internationally significant conferences and symposiums, including on three occasions at OFFSET (2009, 2010, and 2014).

He is a member of La Catedral Studios and the Dublin Graphic Print Studio.
